Truthfully: Casting directors must answer to the director of the campaign or production. In fact, the hierarchy in the entertainment industry states, that everyone has to answer to someone higher than them, period. Therefore, local casting directors must be able to see the talents eyes and hear their voice clearly too. The latest camera phones make for amazing tools, and the "pro look" itself actually comes down to three key points:
1. The Eye Line: Choose a spot to look at, & be consistent. Never dart your eyes.
2. The Audio: Never use a lapel microphone if you want the casting director looking at your eyes. Record in a quiet space and avoid places that can echo or reverberate.
3. The Backdrop: Use a solid blue, green, grey wall or material. The colour of the backdrop isn’t as important as making certain that the backdrop aims to detract any shadows. Always find ways to keep the eyes of the casting director looking at your eyes.
